Fascinated by the history jewelry holds and what it has come to mean to us. I see jewelry as small vessels carrying our personal stories. Embodying memories of people, places and experiences.
Birka Lexia is a one woman business based in Copenhagen. I produce your jewelry in small batches, made-to-order and custom made jewelry.
Each design is carefully hand-carved in castable wax in my local studio. Through the lost wax method the designs get morphed into precious metal. A casting technique that has been practiced since the Bronze Age. After casting, each jewelry gets individually polished and finished, also by hand.
WITH CARE FOR PEOPLE AND NATURE
My aim is to work with responsibly sourced material and to be transparent in my production. To make things the right way, rather than the fastest and cheapest. This sometimes slows down the process and limit choices of material and stones. Even so, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Birka Lexia jewelry is made with as much recycled metal as possible. However, the demand on silver on the market is higher than what is recycled today. My partners therefore deliver recycled sterling silver, but add on new sterling silver in the alloy where needed.
I always up-cycle and reuse my scrap silver & gold. It gets either turned into new jewelry in my studio or given to a refinery for recycling.
All Birka Lexia Jewelry is made with sterling silver and components that has been approved by the Responsible Jewelry Council.
Most designs can also be made in 100% recycled gold. Please, email me with your request.
Gemstones are sourced with care for people in mind. I only work with suppliers that can guarantee traceability and fair working conditions for everyone involved.
All Birka Lexia jewelry boxes are made out of FSC-certified cardboard and water-based glue. They´re produced right here, where I’m located, in Denmark.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an international non-profit organisation committed to advocating responsible forestry. Forests all over the world have been and can be FSC-certified if they live up to the highest environmental and social FSC standards.
An FSC-certified product means that it comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. For example, in an FSC forest, there won’t be more trees cut down than can be reproduced.
You’ll find the FSC label on the inside of your jewelry box under the foam.
